UvA Open Science Day: a big success!

2024-10-05

A lot of science communication today as MiCRop was exhibited at the UvA Open Science Day at Science Park campus of the University of Amsterdam. The MiCRop stand was a two-part exhibition. The first part - staffed by Michelle Zwart, Sjors Huizinga, Lemeng Dong, and Kathrin Wippel - was a lab area displaying aeroponics and microscopes where people could look at plant roots, bacteria and fungi on plates. The second part - staffed by Julian Voet and Saskia ter Horst - was a game area where people could try out the beta version of the MiCRop VR-game. It was already the third year in a row that MiCRop could be exhibited at the Open Science Day. Contrary to previous years, the exhibition was held in Lab42 instead of the main building. However, that did not take away any of the success that the Open Science Day turned out to be: both the lab and game area were widely visited. The MiCRop representees were constantly active to communicate our science to the audience. A genuine working day for them, but with a lot of outreach as a result!
